Visa for visiting friends and/or relatives

On this page you can find information about documents required for visa to visit friends or relatives in Sweden.

All applicants including children (regardless of age) should submit the full set of required documents when applying for a visa.

The Embassy will not consider visa applications, additional or completing documents sent to the Embassy by post, fax or e-mail. Please do not send invitations or extracts from the Swedish population register to the Embassy by fax!

Attention!

The Migration Board introduced an application form for D-Visa.

New requirements for applicants applying by a representative (power of attorney).

Documents required:

  • Application for a Schengen visa (English or Swedish), completed, dated and signed. NOTE: The application form must be signed twice – pt. 37 and at the end of  the form. If you are applying for a D-visa you shall submit a special application form.
  • Invitation (English or Swedish) from the host person (referee) not more than 3 month old.
  • Personbevis (marked “invitation” or “inbjudan”) - an extract from the Swedish population register (Skatteverket) for the host person, not more than 3 month old.
  • Copy of passport's identification page of the host person.
  • Applicant’s passport. The passport must be valid for at least 3 months after the scheduled return. Passport has to be issued within the previous 10 years (not earlier).
  • Copy of passport´s identification page
  • Foreigners living in Russia must have proof of legal residence in Russia
  • Documental proof of sufficient financial means (for example: employment certificate or contract stating your salary, bank statement, copies of travellers checks). The amount has to be not less that 40 EUR or 370 SEK per day. If the host person (referee) is paying for the applicant’s journey and/or upkeep while visiting Sweden - documents which show the details of his/her annual income.
  • Sponsor letter – should be submitted in case of lack of personal funds - signed by the sponsor. The letter goes with a copy of the sponsor’s passport, as well as his work certificate or account statement.
  • Medical insurance, valid in all Schengen states with coverage amount at least of 30 000 EUR or 35 000 USD. For multiple entry visits the insurance must cover at least the first visit.
  • Two colour photographs (35 x 45 mm), not older than 6 month taken over/against white background for all applicants, including minors.
  • Power of attorney (for applicants who can not apply personally)

For children below 18 who travel alone or with one of the parents (additionally):
 - a copy of a birth certificate of the child
 - if the child is entered in the passport of his parent, a copy of the parent's passport (the identification page and the page with child’s personal particulars are required)
 - a copy of a written consent stamped by a notary public from both parents (one of the parents) or the legal guardian of the child
 - a copy of the internal passport (the identification page) from both parents (one of the parents) or the legal guardian of the child

Attention!
The Embassy may require additional documents or request the applicant to come to the Embassy in person (for an interview).
