About the Consulate General

The Honorary Consul General of Sweden in New York is David E. R. Dangoor. The new Consulate reports to the Embassy in Washington DC, and its jurisdiction includes the states of New York, New Jersey and Connecticut.

Services for Swedes
As of January 4, 2010, all passport applicants must apply in person at the Embassy of Sweden in Washington DC in order to be digitally photographed and fingerprinted at the time of the application, or apply at a Swedish consulate through the mobile passport service. The Consulate General in New York accepts a applications for regular passports by appointment on certain dates throughout the year, as part of a mobile service administered by the Embassy of Sweden. The dates for 2012 are now available.

In all cases, applicants may choose to pick up newly issued passports and identity cards at the Consulate General in New York. The Consulate General can also issue emergency passports and assist with the registration of names of newborn children, as well as provide assistance to Swedish citizens in consular emergencies or who have been detained or imprisoned.

Residence and Work Permits
For persons residing in New York, New Jersey or Connecticut, applications for residence permits with all required documents may be submitted in person during visiting hours, or sent directly to the Consulate.

All other residence permit applicants should refer to the website of the Embassy of Sweden in Washington, DC.

As of January 1, 2012, the Consulate General of Sweden in New York no longer accepts applications for Schengen visas. All applicants for Schengen visas should contact the Embassy of Sweden in Washington DC to schedule appointments to submit their applications in person.

Cultural, Commercial and Public Affairs
The new Consulate General continues to conduct cultural, commercial and public affairs including coordination and support of events to showcase Swedish culture and promote Swedish interests in the New York area. The Consulate General also provides information about Sweden to the public and media, and facilitates exchange between organizations, companies and institutions in Sweden and the U.S.
