Swedish Development Co-operation with Angola

Sweden was during many years one of the main donors of development cooperation to Angola. Since the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida) first opened an office in Luanda in 1977, little more than a year after the Angolan independence in 1975, Sida has been supporting development within many sectors such as fisheries, maternal and child health, infrastructure, energy, telecomunications, human rights and democracy.

In 2003 Sweden begun to phase out the development cooperation. The biggest remaining support to the maternal and child health system in Luanda ended in 2006. Some technical support continue until 2009 as does the support to civic education in view of the upcoming elections.
