1. Why did you choose to study in Sweden? I wanted to broaden my outlook, explore new research possibilities and make new friends.
2. What are your main impressions about university studies in Sweden? Generally I like it, although the bureaucratic study management system (like marking courses in the so called "Ladok" system) is a bit overly complex, even the university staff is struggling to get it right
3. What’s your opinion about the educational quality at Swedish universities? Pretty decent
4. Was it easy to adjust to the Swedish educational system?I have no lectures, only master thesis project, thus it is easy
5. According to you, what is the major difference between being a student in Lithuania compared to Sweden?Basically it is similar, although Swedish education system gets a bit better funding
6. What are the main benefits of studying in Sweden? It depends on your field of studies I think, hard to answer. All universities are of a different quality, and even the study programs within university are different.
7. Did you experience any problems because of cultural differences? No. Maybe because of how I look or some other reasons most people here think I am Swedish and start asking something in Swedish
8. Did you find your financial situation difficult while studying in Sweden? No
9. What is your experience in dealing with Swedish authorities?Swedish bureaucracy is sometimes a bit complicated, and Migration Board is bad in particular. It lacks organization, for example I was requested to provide missing documents in two steps, like I provided one missing document and after a while I've got a request for another, instead just getting a complete list of missing documents at once. Their phone lines are always overloaded, I had troubles when calling the appropriate person. To make things worse, all the lengthy paper mails they send are in Swedish even though I have just arrived and don't know Swedish even if I have an intention to learn it.
10. How did you arrange your housing? I have ticked the accommodation option in my Erasmus application and got it from the university (KTH)
11. Did you stay in a student hall or in an apartment? Student accommodation from university
12. How was your contact with other Swedish and other international students? Nice, although I have met only a very limited amount of Swedish people there - most of the students and scientists in physics are also foreigners
13. Did you find it straightforward to use the English language in Sweden? Yes. At our department, English is kind of official because Swedish researchers have become a clear minority
14. What was your experience of Swedish culture during your stay? Somewhat limited, because I was busy with studies. I've visited some museums and also attended the special meeting in the city hall for foreign students
15. Would you recommend other Lithuanians to study in Sweden?Yes, I like this country
16. How would you like to stay in touch with Sweden in the future?I am thinking of doing PhD studies here, but haven't decided yet
17. Is there anything you would like to add, advice to other students.Stockholm and as I've heard other cities too are bicycle friendly, and used bicycles are cheap, so get on
