Once again the Scandinavian Festival will be held from 10 am to 5 pm on the beautiful campus of California Lutheran University, 60 West Olsen Road, Thousand Oaks, CA.
Both days will be filled with music, dancing, food, lectures, demonstrations, vendors, and lots of activities for the children.
If you are a grandparent looking for a way to spend some quality time with your grandchildren, while passing on the Scandinavian culture, this would be an excellent and most enjoyable way to do it. Children can pick up their “Scandinavian Passport” at the Information Booth, and then proceed to all of the country craft booths. At each booth they can make a craft that is tied to each Scandinavian country and get their passport book stamped. Here’s a sample of some of the crafts offered: Denmark: Paper cutting like Hans Christian Andersen used to doFinland: Friendship braceletIceland: Paper volcanoNorway: Card wool Sweden: Dala horse puppet
Maypole: Starting with a parade at 2:30, we will raise the Maypole and then dance around it while singing traditional songs.
Children’s Theater: Several times a day join us for The Three Billy Goats Gruff in Kingsmen Park. Want to be part of the play? If yes, get there early, and you just might to be one of the goats.
Soccer Clinic: Come measure your talent by going through a basic skills course and then see if you can score a penalty shot against a real goal keeper. (Saturday only from 10:00-2:00)
Kubb: Come learn the ancient game of the Vikings. It’s a bit like horseshoes, but without horseshoes or the stake.
Festival Stage: Music, singing and dancing will change hourly. On Saturday at 10:30 the Festival will open with a colorful parade of flags, along with dignitaries from the Scandinavian countries. Many will be in Old World costumes.
Food Court: In the food court, you will find a variety of Scandinavian foods such as Swedish Meatballs, Aebleskivers, Swedish Pancakes, Lefse, Danish Pastries, and more.
