Born in Stockholm in 1979, Robyn was discovered and immediately signed to BMG at the age of 13 after singing a sad, self-written song about her parents’ divorce in a school workshop. A debut album of R&B-influenced pop in 1995 saw her paired with the top-flight commercial songwriter Max Martin, and the global success of the sweet, soulful single "Show Me Love" in 1997 cemented Robyn as an international pop star.Frustrated by the rigid mainstream approach and lack of control offered by her major label, Robyn regrouped in 2003 and discovered fresh new collaborators in Swedish brother-sister duo The Knife. Armed with the resulting demo single "Who's That Girl", Robyn abandoned her label for good and became the founder and CEO of her own independent record company, Konichiwa Records.Another of her collaborators was Klas Åhlund, the main man behind Teddybears, Stockholm’s genre-bending pop group that has been variously fronted by Annie and Neneh Cherry, Iggy Pop and Mad Cobra. Her self-titled album Robyn was met with massive critical acclaim and her hit single "With Every Heartbeat", produced by Kleerup, became the # 1 single in the UK in July 2007.Robyn performed at Highline Ballroom in New York City on February 5. The other two stops on her U.S. mini-tour are PopScene in San Francisco on February 7 and Troubadour in Los Angeles on February 9. For more information: www.robyn.comPhoto courtesy of www.robyn.com
