Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida) responds to the UN Emergency Humanitarian Appeal with support to UNHCR of KES 35 million, UNICEF of KES 30 million and OCHA of KES 11 million. Four Swedish organisations working with Kenyan partners, including the Kenya Red Cross, have earlier been granted support over KES 56 million. The emergency relief includes provision of food and non-food items, shelter, water and sanitation, protection and healthcare.
“I am saddened by the tragic events that we have all seen unfold since the announcement of the presidential results. As a friend and long standing partner of the Kenyan people, we stand ready to assist in lessening the impact of the crisis on Kenyan children, women and men.” says Swedish Ambassador Anna Brandt.
The objective of Sweden’s humanitarian assistance is to save lives, alleviate suffering and maintain human dignity during and in the aftermath of man-made crises and natural disasters, as well as to prevent and strengthen preparedness for the occurrence of such situations. It is based on the principles of humanity, impartiality, neutrality and independence.
