Sketch Furniture by FRONT at The Museum of Modern Art

The Swedish design group FRONT will be one of the featured participants at the "Design and the Elastic Mind" exhibition at The Museum of Modern Art in New York from February 24 to May 12.

The design group FRONT – Sofia Lagerkvist, Charlotte von der Lancken, Anna Lindgren and Katja Sävström – is based in Stockholm and has been internationally recognized in recent years for its groundbreaking and innovative design.

The MoMA exhibition Design and the Elastic Mind explores the relationship between science, design and innovation.  The exhibition brings together more than 200 design objects and concepts that marry the most advanced scientific research with attentive consideration of human limitations, habits and aspirations.

In the project Sketch Furniture, the four FRONT members have developed a method to materialize free-hand sketches.  They employ a unique method where two advanced techniques are combined.  Pen strokes made in the air are recorded with Motion Capture and become 3D digital files; these are then materialized through Rapid Prototyping into real pieces of furniture.
