Routines for submitting applications
Applications for residence- and work permits should be submitted during office hours (see below) to the Migration Section at the Embassy. An interview will take place most often within two month's but it might take up to 10 months before you have a decision on your application from the Migration Board in Sweden.
Everyone who would like to submit an application at the Embassy should first request for an appointment to do so. The request can either be sent by email to ambassaden.kampala-migration@foreign.ministry.se, by regular mail or at the Migration reception at the Embassy. You will then be granted an appointment, most often within a week, and can then hand in your application. You will after that be interviewed.
Applications by reason of family ties should include, where appropriate, supporting documents such as a proof of personal registration for a reference person, birth certificates and marriage certificates.
Applications for work permits should include an offer of employment.
Applications for residence permit by reason of studies should include a proof of admission to a school or a university in Sweden and a bank statement or proof of scholarship.
Please find requirements, fees & application forms on the right hand side of this page.
Proof of identity
In several rulings, the Migration Court of Appeal has emphasised the requirements in the Aliens Act that foreign citizens must hold a passport when entering and staying in Sweden and that this rule is absolute — unless there are explicit exceptions in the Act.
The Migration Board can issue an alien's passport to a person who does not have a passport that is valid in Sweden. This requires the person to prove his or her identity. No exceptions can be made to the requirement to prove one's identity if the application for a residence permit is submitted outside Sweden. Read more about proof of identity on the Swedish Migration Boards website or on the right hand side of this page.
