National Council for Human Rights Egypt, Arab Ombudsman Network

As a result of a seminar in the Swedish Institute in Alexandria in 2004, a network was initiated to facilitate the development of and the exchange between ombudsman offices in the different countries of the region.

The main objectives of the network are to exchange experiences and ideas among Arab countries that have established an ombudsman, commission or similar institution for human rights in the region (and NGO:s that work for such an institution to be established), and to facilitate the dissemination of practices that have proved to be effective. The total budget is SEK 7 300 000 (USD 1 000 000).
