Sweden and the OECD

Since its establishment in 1961, the OECD has been of great value to its members, now 29 in number. For Sweden, OECD membership has enabled it to participate in an international exchange of experience in important policy areas.

One major task of the OECD is to contribute to an increase of world trade on the basis of non-discrimination, in accordance with international undertakings. OECD is doing valuable preparatory work in the trade area by analyzing issues of current interest before they become subject to international negotiations in other forums. Examples are the relationships between trade and other policy areas such as environment, competition, investment regulatory policy, corruption and electronic commerce. Sweden participates actively in the work of the OECD in this area.
