Global and regional liberalization

Global liberalization of trade has been a strong engine of economic growth in recent decades. At the same time, a vigorous wave of regional economic integration has swept over many parts of the world. Regional trade agreements cover large areas of Europe (the EU), North and Central America (NAFTA), South America (Mercosur) and Asia (ASEAN).

Sweden attaches the utmost importance to free trade on a global basis. This must be the overriding objective behind all trade liberalizations. Meanwhile regional agreements may complement and increase the momentum for global solutions.
