Developing countries

Sweden’s trade with developing countries is relatively small, but for some Swedish-based enterprises it is very important. For instance, many of these companies participate in infrastructure projects in developing countries, especially those related to energy, telecommunications and civil engineering.

Sweden has taken a number of steps to promote trade with developing countries. On the import side, Sweden together with its EU-partners gives special treatment within the framework of the Generalized System of Preferences. Swedish development aid agencies directly support efforts to increase imports from certain developing countries. On the export side, the country has taken steps in the field of export financing and general export promotion. The government accords high priority to official contacts aimed at promoting trade and investment.
