Visa for visiting friends and relatives

In order to visit Sweden you may need an entry visa. Information regarding visa application requirements for visiting friends and relatives is presented on this page.

A full set of documents is required for each applicant regardless the age of the person (including minor children entered in their parents' passports) when applying for a visa.

Visa application can be submitted not earlier than 3 months before the scheduled visit.

(only for BiH citizens)
According to the EU-BiH visa facilitation agreement for close relatives (spouse, children, parents, grandparents and grandchildren) visiting citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina legally residing in the EU Member States the below mentioned documents are required to justify the purpose of the visit. However, this does not mean a that the visitors are not obligatet to turn in other documents required for visas if necessary.

 

Documents required:

  • a written request (invitation) from the host person (Appendix E)
  • proof of identity (personbevis from Skatteverket) not older then three months or a copy of the persons residence permit with a copy of the ID-page of his/hers passport
  • application  for Schengen visa
    completed, dated and signed
  • passport or other travel document valid for at least three months after the scheduled return and two copies
  • proof of the relation between the invited person and the referent (if relatives) with birth certificate
  • proof of sufficient financial means to support yourself during your stay (not less than 40 EUR or 370 SEK per day)
  • medical insurance, valid in all Schengen states with coverage amount at least of 30000 EUR
    -in case of a single visit the insurance should cover the whole period of stay
    -for multiple visas the insurance should cover at least the first visit
    The insurance could be provided by the inviting party in Sweden. This information  should be mentioned in the invitation letter and a copy of the policy has to be  attached.
  • two coloured photographs, size 35x45 mm, taken within six months

In accordance to the EU-BiH visa facilitation agreement following categories are free from the application fee for visas:

  • close relatives (spouse, children – adopted, parents – guardians, grandparents and grandchildren) to BiH citizens legally residing in Sweden
  • disabled persons with accompanied person if necessary
  • pensioners

No application fee will be taken for:

  • children under 6 years
  • close relatives (spouse, partners that live together, children under 21 years) to citizens of a EU-country, Island, Liechtenstein or Schweiz

For all children under 18 years travelling with parents:

  • the original and a copy of a birth certificate of a child
  • school or student’s certificate

For all children under 18 years travelling without parents/with one of the parents
or a legal guardian):

  • the original and a copy of a written consent stamped by a notary public from both parents (one of the parents) or the legal guardian of the child
  • if a child is entered in the passport of his parent or legal guardian, a copy of their passport (an identification page and a page with child’s personal particulars) is required
  • school or student’s certificate

For all applicants not mentioned in the VFA and other citizens following documentation is required:

  • the original of a signed and dated invitation letter (Appendix E)
  • proof of identity (personbevis, not older then 3 months) from the inviting party or a resident permit if not Swedish citizen
  • application  for Schengen visa
    completed, dated and signed
  • two coloured photographs, size 35x45 mm, taken within six months
  • passport and two copies of passport’s identification page
  • proof of the relation between the invited person and the referent (if relatives) with birth certificate

employed persons: work certificate stating, position, length of employment, vacation permission, salary and a certificate from the pension fond (M2)

 

entrepreneurs: court proof of the registration of the company and an extract from Bosnian tax authorities

 

pensioners: copy of a pensioner receipt
students: university or college certificate for students

  • proof of sufficient financial means to support yourself during your stay (not less than 40 EUR or 370 SEK per day)
  • medical insurance, valid in all Schengen states with coverage amount at least of 30000 EUR
    -in case of a single visit the insurance should cover the whole period of stay,

    - for multiple visa the insurance should only cover the first visit
