Future bright for LODLOG

The Swedish-South African Local Democracy and Local Governance programme, LODLOG, has become an accredited training programme. From 2008 South Africa is taking over the lion's share of the financing of the programme.

LODLOG, which targets South African local municipal officers and politicians, is now registered with the South African Local Government Sector Education Training Authority, SETA.

“We are extremely proud to have contributed to the development of a training programme that qualifies for this accreditation,” says Åsa Ehinger Berling, managing director of SALA IDA, the International Development Agency of the Swedish Association of Local Authorities and Regions.

The accreditation ensures funding through the South African Local Government Association, SALGA, for the South African part of the programme from 2008.

“LODLOG is an excellent example of the increasingly co-financed partnership between Sweden and South Africa,” says Dag Sundelin, head of development cooperation at the Embassy of Sweden in Pretoria.

The LODLOG training programme consists of public management themes and modules with emphasis on good practices in local governance and local development. It has enrolled close to 100 participants since 2005.
