Teater Spektakel on U.S. East Coast Tour

The Swedish puppet theater Teater Spektakel travels to New York, Philadelphia and Washington D.C. to perform the play Order in the Flowerbeds! Said Linnaeus, marking the 300 year anniversary of the famed Swedish scientist Carl Linnaeus.

Teater Spektakel was founded by Margaretha and Per Löfblad in 1978.  They have produced 15 plays for children and made over two hundred performances each year, not only at their home stage Lilla Teatern in the city of Uppsala, but all over of Sweden as well.  Teater Spektakel is one of few groups in Sweden who play for really young children, from the age of two to twelve.

Order in the Flowerbeds! Said Linnaeus tells the story of one of the most important scientists in world history, Carl Linnaeus who is known as the father of the modern classification of plants and animals.  It also sheds light on the historical period in which he lived and worked.

This playful time-traveling frolic is written by Margaretha Löfblad and uses various forms of puppetry: marionettes, rod puppets, glove puppets and shadow play.  It is mixed with slapstick storytelling and captivating live music performed by musicians from the Omnibus Wind Ensemble, Eva-Lena Holmstedt and Lars-Erik Lindström.  Set design and puppet design by Eva Grytt.
