The Swedish humanitarian assistance to Somalia reaches to the following areas:
Annual voluntary contributions to organisations’ budgets 2006/2007A total commitment of SEK 54,8 million has already been made for 2007 but the total humanitarian aid is expected to reach some SEK 100 million at the end of the year. Sweden also provided some SEK 72,94 million in 2006 as contributions to general budgets of various humanitarian organisations.
So far, the following decisions on funding have been approved in 2006 and 2007:
2007Decisions and commitments already approved for 2007 so far mainly concern the UN Consolidated Appeal (CAP) as highlighted in the above table, as well as support to the following organisations:
Danish Demining Group (DDG) for continuation of its mine and unexploded ordnance clearance work (5 MSEK).
Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) for information, counselling and legal assistance as well as literacy and skill training for youth activities in Somaliland and Puntland, with a potential extension to the South and Central region (2,5 MSEK).
Danish Refugee Council (DRC) for the continuation of its income-generating and water and sanitation projects (1,2 MSEK).
International Federation of the Red Cross and Swedish Red Cross (31,2 MSEK for the East African region, part of which is allocated to Somalia).

2006In 2006 assistance to drought and flood affected people were the main areas funded in addition to the yearly support to UN agencies through the CAP.
Drought and flooding relief, 2006Sweden provided a total of some SEK 11.4 million as emergency relief to populations affected by drought and flooding in Somalia in 2006 (as well as SEK 4 million to OCHA’s regional drought appeal in 2006 that also benefited Somalia). This aid was channelled through:
