Starring Jonas Karlsson and Reine Brynolfsson, The Last Dog in Rwanda is a film about human fascination with war and violence, in all stages of life. The film traces the story of David who, like many 10-year-old boys, is fascinated by war: he builds plastic models of all kinds of military vehicles and plays war games with his friends. Fourteen years later, in 1994, David is an established news photographer traveling through war-torn Rwanda alongside the thirty-year-old reporter Mats, documenting the genocide of the Tutsis and Hutus. The film is a powerful reflection on mankind's fascination with violence and the horrific consequences of war.Rwandan President Paul Kagame and former U.S. President Bill Clinton were both in attendance at a special reception held at the New York Academy of Art in conjunction with the film festival and delivered speeches about the history and the future of the country. Earlier this year, The Last Dog in Rwanda won awards at both the Palm Springs International Film Festival and the prestigious Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film Festival.
