Rolling Like a Stone at Anthology Film Archives

Anthology Film Archives in New York presents a Swedish documentary based on forgotten home movie footage of The Rolling Stones at a private party in Malmö, Sweden, in 1965.

Directed and produced by Magnus Gertten and Stefan Berg, Rolling Like a Stone is an invaluable nugget of pop history.  It provides a fresh glimpse into the early days of the Rolling Stones, with rare footage of Mick Jagger, Keith Richards and Brian Jones mingling with the local in-crowd at a private party in southern Sweden in 1965.  The amateur reel was shot by members of the Swedish rock bands The Namelosers and The Gonks, who were lucky enough to spend a weekend with the freshfaced UK superstars on their first-ever visit to Sweden.

Forty years later, the filmmakers track down the former band members, fans and groupies to record their memories and their reflections on the road not taken.

The New York theatrical premiere will be presented by Anthology Film Archives in the East Village on May 18.
