Women have been active in Swedish design throughout the 20th century, first in the textile field and later primarily in ceramics and glass. Today, women are represented in all aspects of the profession, creating innovative works in industrial and graphic design, furniture, ceramics, glass, metalwork, and textiles. They have made invaluable contributions to international design, working both independently and in an interdisciplinary manner, using various production methods, technologies and materials. The exhibition 17 Swedish Designers features the work of 17 Swedish women, all of whom have shown at the Stockholm design gallery Chez Pascale. The show is presented in conjunction with the publication of the book 17 Swedish Designers, available in English by Bokförlaget Langenskiöld, with essays by leading design historians. The exhibition is supported by Svensk Form, The Swedish Society of Crafts and Design, The National Council for Cultural Affairs, and the Consulate General of Sweden in New York. It complements the exhibition Bruno Mathsson: Architect and Designer, concurrently on view at the Bard Graduate Center.17 Swedish DesignersJust Scandinavian161 Hudson Street (at Laight Street)New York CityMarch 23 – June 15, 2007For more information: www.justscandinavian.com
