Tercentenary Celebration of the Birth of Swedish Botanist Carl Linnaeus

The year 2007 offers a great deal to celebrate! It's the 300th anniversary of the birth of Carl Linnaeus, and this will be celebrated in many places in Sweden and throughout the world. The ceremonial opening of the Linnaeus year will take place on 28 January in Växjö, and activities are planned throughout the year in Uppsala, in London , and at many other locations in Sweden and abroad. Linnaeus' birthday will be celebrated on 23 May, and many places, including Uppsala, will be holding a full week of festivities. Linnaeus' creativity and sense of curiosity will be emphasized. The man who believed that science was the only firm basis for thought and activity.  The Linnaeus Tercentenary officially ends in Jukkasjärvi on 15 dec. Join in the celebrations of probably the most well-known Swedish scientist by getting to know more about his achievements.

Beyond Blond Celebrates Linnaeus:
April 30 – Opening Reception of Linnaeus in the Garden (by invitation only), an exhibition commemorating the 300th anniversary of Carl Linnaeus, at The Huntington Library, Art Collections and Botanical Gardens.

May 1 – An Evening with Linnaeus, the Prince of Botany. An intellectual discussion about the life and contributions of Sweden’s world-renowned botanist

May 10 – Intelligent Choices for Sustainable Development with the Los Angeles premier screening of “Expedition Linnaeus,” at the Hammer Museum, Billy Wilder Theater
