Five Centuries of Swedish Silver at Scandinavia House

Scandinavia House presents a unique collection of Swedish silver treasures from the Röhsska Museum from February 14 to May 8, 2007.

This exhibition is the first in the United States to present the history of silver design in Sweden, documenting international influences and charting the evolution of a distinctive Swedish style as it developed over the last 500 years.  Organized by the Röhsska Museum in Göteborg, Sweden, the exhibition features approximately 100 objects demonstrating the unparalleled virtuosity of Swedish silversmiths from the 17th century to today.

On the opening night of the exhibition, Elsebeth Welander-Berggren, Director General of Prins Eugen´s Waldemarsudde in Stockholm and Associate Professor of Decorative Arts at the University of Göteborg, discussed the unique tradition of Swedish silver design from the 17th century to the present. Professor Welander-Berggren is the former director of Röhsska Museum of Design and Decorative Arts.
