Visa and residence permit for studies in Sweden
Since 1 May 2004 Czech citizens, just like any other citizen of EU countries, do not need to apply for residence permit in order to study in Sweden.
After starting studying in Sweden you have to register your stay in the country at the nearest Migration Board office (Migrationsverket).
If you are a citizen of a non EU country
If you intend to stay in Sweden for less than three months, then all you need is a visa. If your studies in Sweden will take longer than three months, you need to acquire a residence permit before you arrive in Sweden. Permits are issued by the Swedish Migration Board.
When applying for a residence permit, you must prove that you will have a guaranteed sum of money at your disposal throughout the entire period of your studies. The amount is currently SEK 7.300 per month for ten months of the year. If you wish to bring your family you must show that you have at your disposal an additional SEK 3.000 per month for your spouse and SEK 1.800 per month per child.
Documents of financial proof can for example be in the form of a bank account statement, a letter of guarantee from your sponsor, or a scholarship certificate.
