Visiting visa

Requirements for a visit visa to Sweden – Non UAE nationals (last updated 12 October 2008).

General information

The Embassy will need:
– 7 days to process the visa for nationals who do not need consultation 
– 14 days for nationals who need a Schengen consultation

  • The visa is personal and the application must therefore be handed in to the Embassy in person by the applicant.

  • If the applicant is not able to collect the passport, after the visa decision is taken, the applicant must write a Letter of Authority for the person who will collect the passport on the his or hers behalf.

  • If the applicant is under 18 years old both parents need to be present at the time of applying.

  • If a parent would like to collect a passport of a child, which is under 18 years old, by himself/herself, he/she needs to submit a signed Letter of Authority from the other parent.

A completed application is not equal to a granted visa. Other documentation, than the one listed below, might be requested at any point.

Required documentation

All documents should be submitted in English. All original documents need to be shown to the Embassy when submitting any copies. All submitted document needs to remain at the Embassy.

  • The application for Schengen visa filled in completely and signed by each applicant. If the applicant is under 18 years old, the application needs to be signed by both parents.

  • Appendix D to be filled in by the applicant.

  • Appendix E should to be filled in as an invitation by the reference in Sweden. Appendix E must be submitted in original with the application.

  • Copy of the reference’s passport (and residence permit if the reference is not a Swedish citizen) and/or extract from the Swedish tax agency (Skatteverket) of the population register in Sweden (Personbevis).

  • If the purpose of the visit is to receive medical treatment: Appendix C should be filled in and signed by the applicant and submitted together with a proof of a confirmed appointment with a doctor in Sweden.

  • Copy of the applicant’s passport which has to be valid for six months after the date of entry.

  • Copy of the applicant’s Emirati residence permit. The residence permit has to be valid at least six months from the date of entry.

  • Two recent photographs of the applicant, with white background, facing straight into the camera.

  • Copy of travel arrangements including a booked return. Please note that the Embassy do not require the ticket to be paid on the day of applying.

  • Proof of accommodation/hotel reservation in Sweden.

  • If the applicant is financing the trip: Copy of bank statement in the name of the applicant, the last 3-6 months (40 Euros is required per person and day).
  • If someone else is financing the trip: Copy of bank statement in the name of that person, the last 3-6 months (40 Euros is required per person and day).
  • If the bank statement is in the name of a company: Proof of that the person who finance the trip is the only owner of the company OR that a majority of the shareholders give him/her the permission to use the company's money for this purpose.

  • If the applicant is employed: Conformation letter in original (in English) from the applicant’s employer stating salary, the applicant's current employment/work and date of joining the company. The letter also has to state the dates of the approved leave as well as stating the purpose of the visit.
  • If the applicant is self-employed: Copy of the company’s trade license.
  • If the applicant is under the sponsorship of a family member or a friend: Copy of the sponsor and a letter stating that the sponsor has no objection to the trip.

  • If the applicant is or have been working as a maid for the reference person: Proof that the maid have been working for the reference for at least 12 months as well as a letter stating that the maid will not have to work while travelling to Sweden. If the maid shall work while travelling to Sweden he/she needs a work permit.

  • Each applicant must have a Travel insurance & a Medical insurance valid for all Schengen countries worth EURO 30 000. The insurance do not have to be purchased and submitted to the Embassy until the collection of the passport after the visa decision is taken.

Important information after a visa is granted

  • Travellers from countries outside of the EU will have to show documents on the border which verify that they have enough money to fulfil the financial requirements of the Schengen countries.

  • A granted valid visa does not automatically entitle the holder to enter the Schengen area. An examination of the visitor's right to enter the Schengen area will be made by the authorities at the border.
