Pål Svensson at Jim Kempner Fine Art

Recent works by Swedish sculptor Pål Svensson are featured at Jim Kempner Fine Art in Chelsea from October 5 to November 16, 2006.

Pål Svensson is one of Sweden's foremost sculptors.  Since graduating from Valand School of Fine Arts in 1984, he has produced more than 30 public sculptures, won eight major design competitions and been featured in more than 20 independent exhibitions in Scandinavia, Germany, France and England.

Pål Svensson is known in particular for his large-scale public works of art in granite and diabase.  Many of his public sculptures are located in or near his hometown of Göteborg on the west coast of Sweden.  Among his recent international projects is the Durham Sky Bowl which was inaugurated in Durham, England, in 2005.  Greatly influenced by nature, his work explores the relationship between art and architecture, nature and culture, the polished and the raw.

The exhibit at Jim Kempner Fine Art includes four large works in diabase, on display in the outdoor courtyard, as well as a total of 14 smaller diabase and glass sculptures inside the gallery.
