Cecilia Rodhe was born and raised in Sweden but has spent most of her life in New York and Paris. In her long and successful career, Rodhe's work has been exhibited at the United Nations in both New York and Geneva, and in galleries in New York, Paris and Stockholm. She has received numerous private and public commissions, the most recent of which was for In Oneness, a massive bronze on permanent display in Atlantic City, New Jersey, which corresponded to a "new direction in Cecilia Rodhe’s career," according to architect Frank Gehry.Composed of 15 egg-shaped marbles, as well as film and sound, The Promise is a logical follow-up to Cecilia Rodhe’s previous exhibits and continues her exploration of femininity in all its forms."The organic shape of the egg represents the duality between strength and fragility, a duality that each of us has to face," explains Cecilia Rodhe. "In my work, the egg not only becomes a symbol of creation, but also of our need to invent and reinvent ourselves. In this confusing, violent world, these perpetual renewals become a sign of what is possible, a sign of hope."The Promise by Cecilia RodheArt Life Gallery155 Avenue of the Americas at Spring StreetStarting on September 14, 2006For more information: www.ceciliarodhe.comImage: The Promise by Cecilia Rodhe
