Climate change

The threat of the already ongoing climate change is taken very seriously all over the world. Sweden has a strategy for reducing national emissions of greenhouse gases. At the same time, Sweden´s efforts in the negotiations around climate change are largely channelled through the EU.

Swedish Minister for International Development Cooperation, presented final report from International Commission on Climate Change and Development.

The Commission's final report, "Closing the Gaps", was presented to UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon on May 14 in New York. Donors are urged to honour their ODA commitments; local ownership is key; new and additional money for adaptation is needed together with effective global funding mechanisms.

Swedish Government presents climate and energy bill
March 11 2009, the Swedish Government has presented "A Cohesive Climate and Energy Policy". The Government Bills propose a 40 per cent target for Sweden´s reductions in emissions of greenhouse gases.

Government proposes including aviation activities in Emissions Trading Scheme
February 19 2009,  the Government decided to present a proposal entitled Aviation and the Emissions Trading System to the Council on Legislation. The intention is to include aviation activities in the Emissions Trading Scheme as of 2012.
