Research Cooperation

The Vietnam-Sweden research cooperation programme 2004 – 2007 is supported by the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency – Sida. The SEK 100 million programme covers three major priority sub-programmes, namely rural development and environment, biotechnology and health.

Overall objective

To promote research,  research training and the development of institutional capacity, in the effort to strengthen the university system and higher education within the framework of national policies and plans

Specific Objectives

  • Support the development of national structure for research in Viet Nam, especially in universities and R&D institutions;
  • Strengthen research capacity, through conducting joint result-oriented, mutual-benefit research projects combining PhD and MSc training in priority  areas;
  • Increase the capacity of Vietnamese research institutions to communicate and collaborate with the international research community, promote regional and international scientific exchange.

Research Fund

Under the programme, the Research Fund of SEK 10 million is established to support new emerging research needs and to promote new types of research cooperation which are in line with the Swedish-Vietnamese development cooperation strategy. The Fund also help build the “bridges” between Vietnamese policy-makers and national and international researchers and research institutions by implementing applied research for development purposes.
