About the EC Delegation in Singapore

The Delegation of the European Commission in Singapore was established in 2003 and officially opened in June 2004 by Commissioner Chris Patten.

As a diplomatic mission of the European Commission (EC), the Delegation works to enhance the visibility of the European Union (EU) and promotes closer ties with Singapore by providing an efficient and reliable communications channel between the Commission and the Singapore government.

It also encourages people to people interactions and highlights Europe’s cultural and linguistic diversity, promotes European higher education and facilitates cooperation in the field of science and technology through its various activities.

There are over 130 delegations and representations of the External Service. In South-east Asia the EC has representations in all countries with the exception of Brunei Darussalam (covered by EC Delegation in Indonesia) and Myanmar (covered by the EC Delegation in Thailand).

The specific tasks of the Delegation in Singapore are to:

  • represent the European Commission in the execution of its competences;

  • monitor bilateral relations in the fields of the political, economic, commercial relations and of financial and technical cooperation;

  • monitor perception of European Union policies;

  • promote and defend the values and interests of the European Union; and

  • pursue an information and communication policy in line with the European Commission’s overall strategy in South-east Asia.
