On 3 July 2004 new rules were implemented in regards to the import of pets. It was decided that the rules for import will be the same for old and new EU Member States. A decision has been made on what third countries will be classified as low-risk countries with regard to rabies. The quarantine requirement for import from North America was abolished 3 July 2004.
