The Poet Gunnar Ekelöf in Seven Languages
SwedAlex has now published a unique volume, containing thirteen poems by Gunnar Ekelöf (1907-1968). There is nothing very new about the selection, although it clearly reflects the deep Oriental influence on Ekelöf’s poetry; he was a student of Persian and traveled widely in the Mediterranean, e.g. to Greece, Turkey and Tunisia. In a famous cycle of poems Ekelöf commemorates the Kurdish prince of Emgion.

SIPRI Yearbook 2006
‘In today’s uncertain and complex world, the formulation of goals for security-related action cannot stop at the idea of doing good, and doing it in the right ways. To show, and to convince world opinion, that any given security move is good is perhaps the toughest demand of all.’

SIPRI Yearbook 2005
"Today's world cannot be secure without security for all, yet the events of the past few years have done little to bring global solutions closer. The UN Secretary-General was right to seek suggestions for new approaches from the High-level Panel that reported in December 2004, and right to endorse their major proposals for consideration at the 2005 UN General Assembly."

SIPRI Yearbook 2004
The USA proved that it can destroy its enemies, but it proved unable to compel its friends.’
‘Human beings cannot be made free, let alone happy, by placing them in a protective security cage. The already very difficult task of achieving democratic transformation in non-Western societies will not be helped if the West is seen as slowly consuming its own stock of inherited liberties, while trying to impose freedom (a contradiction in terms) on others.’

SIPRI Yearbook 2003
“One of the several paradoxical aspects of the mass killings of 11 September 2001 has been that, while brutally demonstrating the reality of an interconnected world, they have bred policy perceptions and agendas which risk becoming increasingly West-centric.”
