Environment

Project: Capacity Building of Yunnan provincial government and non-governmental stakeholders to effectively implement EIA/SEAs in Yunnan Province
Purpose: To improve the capacity of Yunnan provincial and local Environmental Protection Bureaus (EPB) to fulfil their roles in conducting EIA/SEAs in collaboration with other stakeholders in Yunnan.
Sida contribution: 8.2 MSEK
Project period: 2006 – 2010
Contract partners: Yunnan EPB and Ramboll Natura

Project: Institutional collaboration between Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE) and Royal Swedish Academy of Engineering (IVA)
Purpose: Institutional cooperation and exchange of scientists in the area of renewable energy and institutional cooperation
Sida contribution:  4 MSEK

Project: Capacity building and institutional cooperation between Ministry of Environmental Protection and Swedish Environmental Protection Agency
Purpose: Institutional strengthening and capacity development in China for public environmental management through enhanced cooperation between environmental authorities in Sweden and China with focus on water management and chemicals management.
Sida contribution: 24 MSEK
Project period: 2007 – 2010
Contract partners: Ministry of Environmental Protection (MEP) and the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency
 

Project: China Council for International Cooperation on Environment and Development (CCICED)
Purpose: To support the CCICED by providing core funding. CCICED studies strategic environment and development issues in China and presents policy advice to the Chinese Government.
Sida contribution: 9 MSEK

Project: Support to Environmental Technical Center (CENTEC) at the Embassy in Beijing
Purpose: To support a environmental technical center at the Embassy in Beijing (Sustainable city concept)
Sida contribution: 6,3 MSEK
Project period:  2007 - 2010
Implementing partner: Embassy of Sweden in Beijing


Project: Bilateral Course on Flood Control and Water Resource Management (Operational Hydrology)
Purpose: Training in the use of hydro meteorological processes in operational water management.
Sida contribution: 3.4 MSEK + 0,3 MSEK

Contract partners: Ministry of Water Resources (Bureau of Hydrology) and SMHI

 

Social sectors

Project: Active Labour Market Policies, Phase 3
Purpose: Improve labour markets functioning and increase employment rate
Sida contribution: 4,0  MSEK
Project period: 2006-2009
Implementing partners:  The Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security and The National Labour Market Board (AMS)


Project: Improved Maternal and Child Health Care Support in Ningxia
Purpose: The overall aim is to contribute to the reduction of maternal and peri/neonatal mortality by developing and improving national policies and guidelines addressing disparities of access to and quality of hospital delivery for western, rural , ethnic minority populations:
Sida contribution: 14 MSEK
Project period:  2006 - 2010
Implementing partners: UNICEF Beijing, Ningxia Public Health Bureau and Karolinska Institutet


Human Rights


Project: Human Rights and Democracy training
Purpose: To stimulate education and research on international human rights law in China and support to the Prosecutor’s office.
Sida contribution: 40 MSEK
Project period: 2008-2010 (continuation of a two previous phases from 2001)
Implementing partners: Beijing University Department of Law, a  number of Chinese universities, National Prosecutors College, and the Raoul Wallenberg Institute
 


OTHER PROGRAMMES

Project: Agricultural rehabilitation in Earthquake affected counties of Sichuan province
Purpose: Early recovery support to reestablish cultivation of lead crops in Anxian, Beichuan and Mianzhu counties.
Sida contribution: 7 MSEK
Project period:  October 2008- March 2010
Implementing partners: FAO in cooperation with Sichuan Department of Agriculture
