Swedish jazz has always spanned a wide range of styles, ranging from the classic to the daring and experimental. Several generations of musicians have made their mark on the Swedish jazz scene, including standouts such as saxophonist Arne Domnérus, clarinetist Putte Wickman, singer Alice Babs, pianist Bobo Stenson, bassist Palle Danielsson and trumpeter Anders Bergcrantz. The new millennium has brought yet another marked change of generation, as well as a new figurehead in saxophonist Jonas Kullhammar. With his considerable chops and irreverent attitude, he has managed to inoculate Swedish jazz with the do-it-yourself ideals of punk and thus become an idol of sorts for many musicians. His record company, Moserobie, has given many young artists a channel in which they can retain complete control.STIM/Swedish Music Information Centre has produced a CD sampler with selected music from the Swedish Jazz Celebration 2005. The disc features several of the biggest and most exciting names in contemporary Swedish jazz, including Torbjörn Zetterberg, Daniel Karlsson, Ludvig Berghe, Mathias Landaeus, Anders Bergcrantz and Jonas Kullhammar.A limited number of complimentary CDs are available from the Consulate General of Sweden in New York. For more about Swedish jazz: www.jazzfacts.comFor more about Moserobie: www.moserobie.com
