So You Want to Teach in Sweden?

Memorandum Regarding Teaching in Sweden

Those who would like to teach in Sweden should be aware of the following requirements:

Chapter 2 Paragraph 4 of the School Act stipulates that:

To be employed as a teacher in the public schools in Sweden without a time restriction, the applicant must

  • Have a command of the Swedish language, unless there is a special reason to concede otherwise
  • Have an essential understanding of the applicable regulations regarding public schools, especially those regulations which specify the educational goals

If someone who wants to teach in Sweden fulfills these requirements, he/she should contact the municipality in which he/she is interested in teaching.  The individual municipalities hire teachers.
