The Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra and Anne Sofie von Otter at Carnegie Hall

Carnegie Hall presents the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by Alan Gilbert, on October 22 and 23, 2005. The first of the two concerts features world-renowned Swedish mezzo-soprano Anne Sofie von Otter performing as soloist with the orchestra.

The orchestra and Anne Sofie von Otter will perform works by Stenhammar, Sibelius, Peterson-Berger, Alfvén, and Andersson. The orchestra will also perform Mahler's Symphony No. 5.

The second concert features German pianist Lars Vogt playing Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 4 in G Major, as well as Prokofiev’s Symphony No. 5 and the New York premiere of Swedish composer Anders Hillborg’s Exquisite Corpse.

Mezzo-soprano Anne Sofie von Otter began her career in the ensemble of the Basel Opera, and has since become regarded as one of the finest singers of her generation.  She has sung at the major opera houses and festivals of the world and and enjoys an ongoing collaboration with James Levine and the Metropolitan Opera.

Founded in 1902, the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra has worked with many legendary conductors.  The orchestra also hosts the Stockholm International Composer Festival and participates annually in the Nobel Prize Ceremony.  This year’s Nobel Prize Concert features Yo-Yo Ma and conductor Sakari Oramo.
