Children's culture the Swedish Way

"CZYTAM WIEM TWORZE" is a broad manifestation of "children's culture the Swedish way", presented by a wide web of Polish partners and starting in Warsaw. Focus is children´s books and main inspiration for the partner web is Astrid Lindgren and her view on children rights. The Polish LOGO key words "czytam wiem tworze" means "I read, I know, I create". Special patron on the project is the Warsaw Mayor Kazimierz Marcinkiewicz.

Aim

The project aims at inspiring children to read, using not only literature but also theatre, film, visual arts, competitions as tools.  It aims at inspiring public debate on children culture and children rights, leaning on the Swedish approach. Its goal is to strengthen the child in its search for harmony and self-realization.

More than 100 events

Target is nationwide, but the project opens with a focus on Warsaw. At least 100 events will take place under the project logo.

Some highlights:

– Theatre performance, created by Teatr Montownia on the basis of Swedish children literature and opening on Children´s Day, 1st of June 2006. Teatr Montownia plays since last winter the most popular play for a young public in Poland. Since winter more than 80 performances.

– Film festival of Swedish film for children and youth on the Warsaw cinema Muranow, that was last year in Paris selected "Best European Cinema".

– Workshops for professionals working with children culture, in co-operation with city of Warsaw and the Warsaw Book Fair.

– A great number of competitions on the theme of children books, children rights and Sweden. The biggest competition will be nationwide, first prize being a trip to Astrid Lindgren´s Vimmerby.

Apart from highlights, 15 mini-exhibitions will tour Poland until June 2006. A great number of events offering Swedish children literature, read aloud by well known Polish actors, will be organized mainly at libraries and cultural centres.

Within the frames of the project the partner web has decided on a special action focusing on children from children homes and children living in poor Warsaw areas.
