Sida’s overall objective is to promote sustainable development and democracy in partner countries. The current focus of Swedish assistance to Tanzania is pro-poor growth, human resource development and democratic development. Sida is active in the following sectors; infrastructure and economic reforms, private sector development, human rights, democratic governance, social development, natural resources use, research cooperation, support to Swedish non-governmental organizations and humanitarian assistance.
One of Sida’s functions within the programme for infrastructure and economic cooperation is to promote exports from partner countries. The Swedish Chambers of Commerce and Industry mainly carry out these activities on a project basis. The task is to assist companies in partner countries in a practical and concrete manner by providing trade contracts, information and advice.

The Chamber of Commerce of East Sweden produces Market Briefs - Focus on the Swedish Markets for a number of sectors. The briefs are written by external consultants and are edited, printed and distributed by the Chamber. You may order the briefs either from the Embassy of Sweden or directly from the Chamber, or download them in pdf format from the Chamber’s website.

It offers general information on trade with Sweden, and can quickly (and free of charge) identify the right supplier for a prospective importer thanks to an extensive network in the Swedish industry. The Swedish Export Directory is an annual compilation of Swedish companies creating a buyer’s guide to Sweden. It can be found on the Council’s website. There is also a copy available in the Embassy reception. The Trade Council advises on current projects and business opportunities and on provides general facts on Sweden. Under the heading ‘Trade Profile’ you may find up-to-date statistics on trade between Sweden and Tanzania.

National Board of TradeThe National Board of Trade (Kommerskollegium) is an independent government agency acting as an expert administrative authority on foreign trade and Swedish trade policies. Its activities fall mainly within the framework of the European Union and its internal market, but the Board also advocates an open and strong multilateral trading system, continued trade liberalisation and a simplification of trade procedures. It provides analyses of Swedish trade policies and information on i.e. import licences. The Board answers to enquiries free of charge.

Open Trade Gate SwedenOpen Trade Gate Sweden is the result of a governmental assignment given to the National Board of Trade to develop a new contact point for the facilitation of trade between developing countries and Sweden. The contact point became fully operational in October 2004.
Open Trade Gate Sweden is the main contact point regarding information and problem solving relating to Swedish and European Union trade rules and regulations. It assists exporters in developing countries to overcome legal and information related barriers when exporting to Sweden.

Swedish Federation of TradeThe Swedish Federation of Trade (Svensk Handel) is the principal organ in Sweden for Swedish importers, wholesalers, suppliers and retailers. It has 20 000 members, of whom a large number of trade associations and local business organisations. The Federation works for increased imports to Sweden and thus promotes free trade across borders. It aims at enhancing the awareness of the significance of trade and imports to Sweden.
A special unit called the Import Council offers service to companies that want to export to Sweden, on i.e. import licences, border inspections, import documents and customs regulations. It assists companies in establishing contacts between suppliers from abroad and Swedish trade associations/companies and offers information on Swedish markets and trends.
