August Strindberg's "Miss Julie" at Rattlestick Playwrights Theater

Strindberg’s classic psycho-sexual drama about the unstable daughter of a count and his ambitious and virile footman is given a new adaptation by renowned playwright Craig Lucas.

Written in 1888, Miss Julie remains one of the foremost naturalistic dramas of all time.  It was a groundbreaking work that heralded a new era in modern theater, as Strindberg advocated a lack of intermissions, the use of real props and natural light.  Today, over 100 years later, the play still has major relevance and emotional impact. Bruce Weber of The New York Times has called it "an amazing play that still terrifies with its insoluble equation of sex, class and death."

Craig Lucas is one of the most prolific and respected American playwrights working today.  His works for the stage include Broadway’s current The Light in the Piazza, Reckless and the Tony-nominated Prelude to a Kiss, as well as Blue Window, The Dying Gaul, and Small Tragedy.

The Rattlestick production of Miss Julie is directed by Swedish director Anders Cato and features stage and television star Marin Hinkle, Tony Award nominee Reg Rogers and Julia Gibson in the leading roles.
