Here you can find some of the most common questions asked by applicants. If you can't find the answers to your questions below, you can contact the Embassy visa section.

1. I will study at a master programme in Sweden for 18 months, how much money should I prepare for my stay in Sweden?
You must show that you have at least 7300 SEK per month, 10 months each year, that you will study in Sweden. If your programme is 18 months, you should show that you have 7300 SEK x 15 months = 109 500 SEK.

2. My wife/husband/child is planning to accompany me to Sweden and stay with me while I am studying there. How should they apply and how much money should they prepare?
They should apply as co-applicants to students. Your wife/husband should show that she/he has at least 3500 SEK per month in Sweden, for a child there must be proof of at least 2100 SEK per month in Sweden.

3. Which bank should I use for the bank certificate? Which currency should the money be provided in?
You can use any bank for your bank certificate. The money can be provided in any currency, preferably RMB, SEK, USD or Euro.

4. How do I pay the application fee?
The best way to pay is when you hand in your application at the Embassy. If you send your application by mail to the Embassy, the post office can help you to send money by invoice, although this may delay the process time for your residence permit. The money should be sent to the same address as the rest of the application:

Embassy of Sweden
3 Dongzhimenwai Dajie, Sanlitun
Chaoyang District, Beijing, 100600

(For the address in Chinese, please open the document on the right "Address to the Embassy in Chinese", or have a look at the Chinese version of the website.)

The Embassy does not have a bank account to which you can transfer money.

If you apply online through the Migration Board you must pay your application fee with an international bank card, and you should not pay the fee to the Embassy.

5. Will my application be sent to the Migration Board in Sweden?
Some applications will be sent to the Migration Board and the decision will be made in Sweden, while some decisions will be made at the Embassy. We can only tell if we can make the decision at the Embassy or not after we have seen the application. This will not affect the process of your application.

6. Must I apply personally?
For a residence permit, the applicant may authorize somebody else to hand in their application. You can also send in your application by mail, however, remember that the application will be delayed if the application is not complete. Remember to write your telephone number in your application.

7. When can I get my residence permit?
When the application is complete with all documents, a residence permit application normally takes at least 8 weeks to process, but may take longer than that.
