The Hasselblad Foundation International Award in Photography is granted for exceptional photographic achievement in the amount of 500,000 SEK (approximately $70,000 USD). Previous U.S. award recipients include Richard Avedon, William Eggelston and Cindy Sherman.The 2005 recipient, a distinguished U.S. photographer, will be announced on March 8 and a video presentation, starting at 9 am EST, will be webcast on www.hasselbladfoundation.org.The winner will accept the prize at a ceremony in Göteborg, Sweden, on November 19. In conjunction, an exhibition of the recipient's work will open at the Hasselblad Center, which is housed in its own wing of the Göteborg Museum of Art. Victor Hasselblad (1906-1978) was a pioneering Swedish photographer and industrialist, who manufactured a camera which has become world famous, not least in connection with the manned trips to the moon. The Hasselblad Foundation was established in 1979 under the terms of the last will and testament of Dr. Victor Hasselblad and his wife Erna.The Foundation is an independent non-profit entity, created to promote research and academic teaching in the natural sciences and photography.
