October is set to promote a wide variety of Swedish talent. First out is Female Fragrance, two evenings of video art, held at the Swedish Ambassador's residence in London.
Partly coinciding with the world-famous Frieze Art Fair in Regent's Park, six Swedish female artists will be presenting their moving image work on the 8th and the 15th of October. This is an excellent opportunity to introduce the many art collectors and visitors already in London to some of Sweden's finest video artists - Lisa Jeannin, Petra Lindholm, Gunvor Nelson, Annika Ström, Malin Ståhl and Anita Wernström.
The first event will introduce the works of Gunvor Nelson, Lisa Jeannin and Anita Wernström. Gunvor Nelson is considered to be one of Sweden's premier experimental film maker. Lisa Jeannin uses the surrealist method in her video art to introduce the viewer to new and productively relaxed ways to derive nourishment. Anita Wernström seeks inspiration from the theatrical, popular culture and storytelling, using emotional language to produce non-linear art, opening up for new reading and narratives.
The second part of Female Fragrance will be presented on Thursday the 15th of October. Singer/artist Annika Ström uses a documentary style when portraying everyday situations, often accompanied by her own monologue or music. Finnish-born Petra Lindholm has been touted as one of Sweden's most promising young artists. Like Ström, she uses singing to accompany her sentimental and romantic piece of work. Malin Ståhl plays with reality and fiction, time and space in her contribution to this event.Photo credit: Gunvor Nelson
