About the Embassy

Welcome to the Embassy of Sweden in Abuja, Nigeria.

The most important tasks of the Embassy are to represent and assist Sweden and the different sectors of the Swedish society and to promote Swedish interests in Nigeria. The Embassy shall also strengthen the relations between Sweden and Nigeria – their governments, citizens, organizations and business community.

The Embassy also follows the political and economic development in Nigeria and reports to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Stockholm, and also to other authorities, such as the Swedish Migration Board, the Swedish Trade Council and The Swedish International Development Agency (Sida).

The consular section handles applications of passports, visas and residence permits as well as questions concerning citizenship. When needed, the Embassy also provides consular services for Swedish citizens in Nigeria.

Trade relations are an important part of the Embassy's work. The Embassy, in co-operation with the Swedish Trade Council has a commercial office in Lagos, whose main task is to promote trade and investments between Sweden and Nigeria. 

The Embassy in Abuja also represents Sweden and promotes the relations with Benin, Ghana, Niger and Togo.
