Visa for visiting Sweden

For general information about Schengen visas please go to the home page of the Swedish Migration Board.

As shown in the home page of the Swedish Migration Board, the section about Schengen visas, every Swedish Embassy can have it's own requirements for certain documents etc. to be added to the application for a Schengen visa.

The Swedish Embassy in Tehran has the following requirements:

  • A document called Personbevis (from tax authorities). This document has to be supplied for the reference person in Sweden (the person who invites). If the applicant has any other close relatives living in Sweden, a personbevis has to be supplied for every one of them. Close relatives are parents, children and brothers/sisters.

  • The applicants must be able to show that they have enough money for the return ticket and for the stay in Sweden. This can be shown either by cash or bank statement. It is also possible for the reference person to guarantee all costs for the applicant. The reference person then has to state clearly in the application that he is willing to pay all the expenses and also has to prove that he can do so (by enclosing bank statement or salary slip). The cost for a person visiting Sweden is calculated to 3 million rials or 3000 SEK per month.

  • Every applicant must supply copies of their identity card (shenazname) and if they have, the id-card called Carte Melli. The applicant must bring the originals when filing the application so that the Embassy staff can make sure that the copies are true copies.

  • Every person visiting the Schengen States must have a valid travel insurance in order to be allowed to enter. The Embassy in Tehran requires that proof of such insurance is brought already when the application is filed. This means that the applicants have to show proof of insurance already when they come to the Embassy to apply for the visa. If the application for visa should not be granted the applicant can get back the money paid for insurance by showing the negative decision from the Embassy to the insurance company.

Important information about the Visa queue

The high season for the Swedish Embassy in Tehran is from the month of April up to the end of August. During this time many people line up outside the Embassy in order to file their applications. The most burdened months in this respect are the months of May and June.

The Embassy strongly recommends applicants who wish to visit Sweden in May or June to apply for their visas at least two months in advance.

It is possible to apply for a Schengen visa up to three months before the planned date of entry.
