Brucebo and W.B. Bruce Fine Art Scholarships

The Brucebo and W.B. Bruce Fine Art Scholarships for Canadians for 2008-2009.

The Brucebo Fine Art Foundation of the Swedish island of Gotland, located midway between the Swedish mainland and Latvia, invites applications for a scholarship to be awarded in 2008-2009. This scholarship has been awarded annually for the past thirty years and is affiliated with the Brucebo Foundation, a body dedicated to the promotion of the cultural history, museums, and contemporary art of Gotland. Funding is provided by the estate of Caroline Benedicks Bruce (d.1935) in memory of her husband, Canadian painter William Blair Bruce (1860-1906), and the scholarship is open only to Canadian artists. Because of the structure of the studio facilities preference is given to painters, although practitioners of other media may also apply.

The William Blair Bruce  European Fine Art Travel Scholarship  was introduced by the Foundation   around 1990 in recognition of  the importance of the  European  element  in the Carolina Benedicks - William B. Bruce life story.  Thus, the "Bruce" scholarship finances a systematic  Fine Art European  travel sojourn , to be undertaken  either during  an appropriate time  in the Fall or Winter Semester. The travel can be  part of either a Europe-based Fine Art related investigative/ research oriented project  or a thematic Fine Art study tour  to various countries, however both including a short visit to Gotland.

The scholarships are offered annually at a value of SEK.25.000 ( approx. $ 5000:-  each).
