New York Galleries Feature Solo Exhibits by Michele Pred and Ragna Berlin

Separate solo exhibits by two American-based Swedish artists, Michele Pred and Ragna Berlin, are on display during October 2004 in New York City.

San Francisco-based mixed-media artist Michele Pred presents her first New York solo show, Rem(a)inders, at Nancy Hoffman Gallery in SoHo through October 26.

Michele Pred's work incorporates recycled materials, found objects and, specifically, confiscated items from airports.  Most of her raw materials (scissors, pocket knives, clippers, and cell phone chargers) come from San Francisco's International Airport, confiscated since 9/11/2001, and represent "the cultural residue of a particular moment in history...each small tool, like each of us, bears some weight of a changed world."

New York-based painter Ragna Berlin presents an exhibit entitled Light and Space at Gallery Boreas in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, from October 22 through November 21.

Ragna Berlin's training in both architecture and sculpture allows her to explore alternative concepts of space and to make a departure from traditional and masculine sensibilities.  Her work is playful and provocative; it softens unwelcome edges and dissolves boundaries between form, light and space.

In addition to the Brooklyn show, Gallery Boreas is featuring Ragna Berlin at the AAF Contemporary Art Fair on October 28-31.  Her work can also be seen at the Paul Mellon Center in Connecticut through November.
