Kjell Anneling Appointed Consul General of Sweden in New York

One of Sweden's most experienced and accomplished diplomats, Kjell Anneling, has been appointed to the post of Consul General of Sweden in New York on an interim basis.

As of September 9, 2004, Kjell Anneling is the Consul General of Sweden in New York.  He has been appointed on an interim basis, as the Swedish Government has yet to appoint a successor to Olle Wästberg.

Born and educated in Göteborg, Kjell Anneling has worked for the Swedish Ministry for Foreign Affairs since 1963.  His career within the Swedish foreign service has included a number of key appointments, both in Stockholm and abroad.

Most recently, Kjell Anneling has been the Chief Coordinator for Trade and Investment Promotion, on the staff of the Swedish Minister for Industry and Trade.

On his latest appointments abroad, he served as Ambassador of Sweden to China (1997-2002), Norway (1993-97) and New Zealand (1987-90).

Kjell also has significant experience in the administrative sector, having served as Head of the Human Resources Department (1983-87) as well as Director-General of Administrative Affairs (1990-93) at the Ministry for Foreign Affairs in Stockholm.

His first diplomatic assignments in the 1960s and 70s included Oslo, Norway; Kinshasa, Congo; Athens, Greece; Dhaka, Bangladesh; and Manila, the Philippines.

Kjell Anneling's broad experience -- spanning several decades and continents -- of diplomatic and consular affairs, administrative matters, as well as trade and investment promotion, makes him exceptionally equipped to handle the demands of the assignment in New York.

Kjell and his wife, Birgit Anneling, are long-time frequent visitors to the United States for personal reasons as well; their son and his family live in Iowa.
