The conference focuses on the Swedish language, teaching methods and materials, culture and current events. It allows teachers to network, share knowledge and exchange experiences and other information. Featured guest speakers are invited from Sweden to give presentations and participate in discussions about Swedish culture, language and pedagogy.The 2008 conference will be hosted by the University of British Columbia in Vancouver on October 23-25.Recent conferences have been hosted by the University of Minnesota (2007), the University of Pennsylvania (2006), the University of Texas (2005), the University of Wisconsin (2004) and the University of Washington (2003). Recent guest speakers have included authors Mats Wahl, Håkan Nesser, Jonas Hassen Khemiri and Ellen Mattson; linguists Birgitta Lindgren and Lars-Gunnar Andersson; teachers and pedagogy experts Helén Ericson, Roger Nyborg and Anna Winlund; political and social historians Henrik Berggren and Lars Trägårdh; intellectual historian Gunnar Broberg; cultural historian Bengt af Klintberg; and art historian Helena Kåberg.
