About the Embassy

The Embassy of Sweden in South Africa represents the Swedish government in the Republic of South Africa, Botswana, Namibia and Lesotho. 

Consular and migration matters

Our consular section assists both Swedish citizens who are visiting South Africa, Botswana and Namibia, and South African citizens who wish to visit Sweden. The German embassy in Gaborone handles visa applications from Botswana to Sweden, while the Finnish embassy in Windhoek is responsible for visa applications from Namibia to Sweden.

Commerce and trade

The embassy promotes commercial and trade exchanges between Sweden and South Africa, Botswana and Namibia. In cooperation with the Swedish Trade Council, the embassy helps companies find business partners and opportunities for trade and investment.

Development cooperation

The embassy is responsible gor development cooperation between Sweden and South Africa. Cooperation focuses on reducing poverty, inequality and vulnerability, consolidating democracy, supporting the response to HIV and AIDS and developing long-term, mutually beneficial partnerships between businesses, organisations, muncipalities and agencies in the two countries.

The embassy receives telephone enquiries regarding migration and consular matters, including passports, between 2 and 4pm every weekday except Fridays. You can also e-mail your queries to:

The switchboard is closed for lunch between 12.30pm and 1.30pm every day.
