About the Embassy

Welcome to the Embassy of Sweden in Pretoria, South Africa.

The Embassy of Sweden in South Africa represents the Swedish government in the Republic of South Africa, Botswana, Namibia and Lesotho. 

The Embassy is also responsible for the cooperation with the regional organisation SADC (Southern Africa Development Community) with its head office in Gaborone, Botswana. Ambassador Peter Tejler is the representative of the Government of Sweden to SADC.

Consular and migration matters

Our consular section assists both Swedish citizens who are visiting South Africa, Botswana and Namibia, and South African citizens who wish to visit Sweden. The German embassy in Gaborone handles visa applications from Botswana to Sweden, while the Finnish embassy in Windhoek is responsible for visa applications from Namibia to Sweden.

Commerce and trade

The embassy promotes commercial and trade exchanges between Sweden and South Africa, Botswana and Namibia. In cooperation with the Swedish Trade Council, the embassy helps companies find business partners and opportunities for trade and investment.

Development cooperation

The embassy is responsible for development cooperation between Sweden and South Africa; Botswana and Namibia. Cooperation focuses on reducing poverty, inequality and vulnerability, consolidating democracy, supporting the response to HIV and AIDS and developing long-term, mutually beneficial partnerships between businesses, organisations, muncipalities and agencies in the two countries.

The Gautrain station is a five minutes walking distance from the Embassy. The Gautrain is safe to take to/from Johannesburg and OR Tambo International Airport. See link to the right.
