There are many types of travel insurance you might like to consider before you travel. Some common types are:-Medical: If you suffer illness or injury during your journey, your costs for treatment (such as doctors´or hospital fees) will be paid for by the insurance.-Repatriation: If you require an immediate return to your home country because of severe illness/injury, a repatriation insurance will pay for your ticket home. -Loss: You can get insurance to pay for property which is lost, damaged or stolen while you are abroad. -Legal: You can get an insurance which will cover the costs of legal representation (a lawyer) if you run into trouble while you are abroad.
Do I need a travel insurance to go to Sweden?
Most people need a travel insurance to go to Sweden, including Tanzanians. The only people who do NOT need travel insurance to go to Sweden are those from countries which have a Social Security agreement with Sweden. Tanzania does NOT currently have a Social Security agreement with Sweden.
What kind of travel insurance do I need?
For travellers from Tanzania, Sweden requires a travel insurance which meets the following conditions:- It must cover all medical expenses such as doctors´ or hospital fees which may arise due to sickness or injury- It must cover repatriation costs- It must be valid in all Schengen countries - It must be valid for the whole period that you will be in Sweden/Schengen countriesThe insurance should cover costs up to 30 000 EURO (Approx TZS 30 million).
When making your visa application you must be prepared to buy a travel insurance (stakabadhi) which meets the above conditions – you cannot get a visa without it. But the insurance should only be bought after the decision about the visa is taken, but before the Embassy issues the visa. This is to ensure that you do not buy an insurance if your visa is refused.
