Visa for visiting friends or relatives

A visa issued by a Schengen country permits free travel within the Schengen area if not expressly stated otherwise on the visa. The maximum duration of stay for this kind of visa is 90 days.

Competent Embassy or Consulate-General

The Embassy or Consulate-General of the country of your main destination is the competent authority to deal with the application. If the main destination cannot be determined, the application should be made to the embassy of the country in which the longest visit shall be. If the visits in different Schengen countries are of equal length, the first destination shall be the determining factor.

Visa application

Please note that applicants are in principle required to apply in person.

The following required documents need to be submitted in original:

  • Two completed Schengen visa application forms

  • A completed Appendix D form (completed by the applicant )

  • Two passport photos taken within the past six months
    -Photos that do not conform to these standards will be rejected and may cause delay in processing the application.

  • Passport, valid at least 90 days after expiration of the visa. We only accept passports which have been signed by the holder of the passport. Non-Chinese citizens are also required to show a valid Chinese residence permit

  • A completed Appendix E form (completed by the referent)

  • A document certifying that you have been given leave from your job/studies during the period you intend to visit Sweden. This document should also include an official stamp, signature, telephone number, fax number and address of the employer or school.

  • For Chinese citizens who wish to visit relatives in Sweden we need Hukou in original, with a photocopy of all the pages. In case your kinship is not shown in the hukou, you are requried to enclose a Notary Certificate stating your kinship in original.

  • Proof of your financial means. The required amount is 370 SEK/day planned in Sweden. This document is best submitted as a bank certificate from either the applicant or the referent person. 

  • Relevant insurance covering the journey in the Schengen area and must be valid for the entire duration of the stay, with cover of at least €30,000.00 and covering the cost of any emergency medical treatment and/or repatriation for medical reasons.


The following required documents do not need to be submitted in original:


  • The referent person's personal registration certificate (personbevis)

  • Photocopy of the identity page of the referent person's passport/ID-card

  • Photocopy of the identity page of the applicant's passport.

Additional information

  • All documents should be submitted in either English or Swedish

  • The Embassy may contact the applicant to request additional documents/information or to have an interview

  • Presentation of the above-mentioned documents does not automatically guarantee that a visa will be issued

  • The visa procedure normally takes about 10 working days

Fees

  • The application fee for all types of Schengen visas is 570 RMB. The fee does not vary with the duration of stay in the Schengen area or number of entries. The Embassy will only accept card payment. Please observe: cash payment can only be accepted, when card payment is not possible.
